There is no place like Fontwell for Soulsaver who achieved his third success at the Sussex track on Wednesday in just over eighteen months.

An hour later Marilyn Monroe completed a fine evening for the team with a cosy success in the concluding bumper in the colours of the Some Like It Hot syndicate.

We were hopeful of another good run from Soulsaver at his favourite course. But he still had a fair bit to do on the final bend where he was being chased along in fourth place by cour conditional jockey Rex Dingle in the Class 4 handicap hurdle over two miles, three furlongs.

But Rex kept driving him, Soulsaver kept responding and they came through to lead at the last flight before staying on to beat Magical Thomas by three and a quarter lengths.

He is quite versatile and travels well on a going day. He is up to a career high mark of 109 and having the blinkers back on seemed to help.

We bought Marilyn Monroe at the Cheltenham sale just over a year ago after she had won a point-to-point in Ireland by ten lengths.

As a half sister to Regal Encore and The Organist, she has an attractive pedigree. She ran well at Plumpton on her debut for us when third in a bumper towards the end of February, despite showing signs of greenness by drifting right handed in the finishing straight.

It was good to see Marilyn Monroe take a nice step forward at Fontwell where she travelled comfortably behind the leader before again showing her inexperience by hanging towards the stands rail as she came through to challenge.

But she was always doing enough in front as she kept on well to hold the late run of No No Maestro.

Marilyn Monroe is a lovely prospect who has earned a break now, and after this evening we may keep her to right handed courses in the future !
