I was delighted to see BLACK PRINCE gain his first success at Chelmsford on Friday evening with the help of a fine ride from John Egan.

I've really enjoyed getting involved on the flat this year. Ron Huggins set things in motion by sending me his home bred Jukebox Jive as a yearling and then buying Black Prince with a few friends to keep him company. The pair have now won four races this flat season and hopefully there will be more to come from them on the level in 2018.

A tall, powerful gelding standing fully 17 hands, Black Prince has shown plenty of promise this summer without quite getting it together on the track. Yesterday was the first time things clicked for him in a two mile handicap despite an unpromising draw in stall ten. John Egan managed to pop him out sharply and was soon in a handy position. Black Prince then moved into contention three out, led just inside the final furlong and showed plenty of resolution to see off the strong challenge of Mr Davies by half a length.

A few schooling sessions over hurdles at home in recent weeks may have helped Black Prince grow up. His team of owners are keen to run him over hurdles this winter before he returns to the flat next year.

I was surprised that the handicapper raised Jukebox Jive 7lbs to a mark of 97 following his excellent recent fourth in a Listed race at Newmarket. We might pop him over a few flights of hurdles, too, before making plans for him.

I've loved the whole process of educating Jukebox Jive and Black Prince and bringing them through from yearlings to their rewarding three year old careers. Given the chance I'd relish training a few more flat horses in the summer when our jumpers are having a well earned holiday.

COEUR TANTRE bounced back to form on Friday, with a cracking effort to finish a close 3rd off top weight in a competitive handicap hurdle at Fontwell.

Two super wins at Newton Abbot earlier in the summer were followed by a below par effort on his third run for us, so it was great to see him bounce back to form off what is now a career high mark. He should continue to give the Aeolus syndicate lots of fun in the coming months.
