The brilliant success of Acey Milan at Newbury on Saturday came as a timely and much needed pick me up following the loss of our stable star Fountains Windfall a day earlier.

We are all still coming to terms with the shock of what happened during a routine schooling session. One minute he was trotting round the indoor school, the next he had some sort of haemorrhage.

The last 24 hours demonstrates the extreme highs and lows of our sport. Following the sad loss of Fountains Windfall, the talented and progressive youngster Acey Milan wins a hot Newbury bumper to lift the spirits of the Potwell team.

He is a lovely young prospect who is already looking pretty smart and has taken a step forward each time he has run.

Having won bumpers at Wincanton and then Cheltenham he completed the hat trick at Newbury with a fluent triumph by eleven lengths in a race that attracted any number of highly rated rivals.

Acey Milan has shown he copes really well with testing conditions and came right away from the chasing pack in the closing stages.

We hope to take him to the Champion bumper at the Cheltenham Festival where we will find out if he is just as effective on the anticipated better ground.

Lechlade Magician, our other runner in the race showed a lot of promise when winning on debut at Wincanton on Boxing Day. And whilst he didn't run his race this time, he remains a horse with lots of ability and potential going forwards.
