Ms Parfois completed a season of great achievement with an excellent run into second place in the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree on Friday.

It came twenty four hours after Duhallow Gesture finished a fine third in the Grade 2 Goffs Mares’ Bumper.

To have our only two runners at the meeting go so close is highly pleasing. Especially having had our 2 runners at the Cheltenham Festival do so well.

Ms Parfois is a smart mare who jumps for fun, stays exceptionally well and has had ground conditions in her favour over the winter. Not many Mares have the scope she possesses for fences and she is quite brilliant at it.

I’m proud and a little disappointed at the same time that she has run so well at both Cheltenham and Aintree without quite managing to win.

I’m already looking forward to running Ms Parfois over marathon trips next season with the Coral Welsh National the obvious first major target. Nor would I rule out a return to Aintree with her, for the Grand National.

Duhallow Gesture did well to be third on Thursday considering we’d had one or two issues in training with her. She hasn't been straightforward to train, and the owners have been very patient ! With a clear run I feel I can get her in even better shape.

That is probably it for the season for Duhallow Gesture though I’ll keep her ticking over for the next few weeks and if the ground remains soft then she could have one run in a novice hurdle at the start of the new season, before her summer break.
