Regal Encore extended the brilliant form of the team with a well deserved triumph in the Listed Keltbray Swinley Chase at Ascot in the colours of JP McManus. In earning a first prize of £42,712 he was winning his second valuable race at the course in fourteen months.

All roads now lead to Aintree for the Grand National for Regal Encore who was a strong finishing eighth in the race last April and has a lovely racing weight this time. We have always thought the world of him and he is a long time favourite of my wife Rachael who often rides him at home and led him up at Ascot as usual.

He ran a great race to be third in the Ladbrokes Trophy, formerly the Hennessy Gold Cup, at Newbury early in December, stays really well and and could be a lively contender for us at Aintree on April 14.

It is encouraging that Richie McLernon gets on so well with Regal Encore and has confidence in him. They teamed up together to good effect in the Ladbroke Trophy and Richie rode him again at Ascot to gain more experience with him ahead of the National.

It was good to see him travelling and jumping well just behind the leaders before storming to the front at the last fence and coming clear of Holly Bush Henry on the flat.

We will pop him over a National type fence in the build up to the big race, just as we did last year, and soft ground at Aintree would be a bonus.

With Ms Parfois running another fine race at Ascot in finishing second to the prolific Black Corton in the Renoldstown Chase we left the course in high spirits.

Regal's victory now puts us at 33 winners for the season - the highest that we have achieved. We're delighted for the success that our owners are having, and it's a great tribute to the team here at Potwell and all the hard work that we all put in on a day to day basis.
