Midnight Callisto made a deeply impressive winning debut under Aidan Coleman in a mares bumper at Fontwell on Wednesday for owner Gill Langford.
She travelled strongly throughout just behind the leaders, eased ahead early in the straight and galloped on relentlessly to beat the point to point winner Timetoroe by eight lengths with the rest of the field far in arrears.
You couldn’t wish for more from a first start and the plan is now to send Midnight Callisto to Cheltenham for a £22,000 Class 1 Mares Listed Bumper on November 16.
She is a cracking prospect by the ever reliable stallion Midnight Legend out of Carrigeen Queen, a sister to a Grade 2 winner and a two time Grade 1 winner.
She showed plenty of promise last season and was within a few days of making her debut when she had a little setback. She has continued to please this autumn and we were very hopeful going to Fontwell even though she hadn’t been away from home for a racecourse gallop.
With the experience of this run behind her I’m sure there is plenty of improvement to come from Midnight Callisto because she had never been on grass before.
She was well bought for us for £8,500 at Ascot by Ryan Mahon who chose her from a group of two year olds we asked him to check out.
We also have her five year old half sister in training, Lily the Pink, already a winner, and a strong, unraced, unnamed three year old full sister who is a bit green at the moment but gives every sign of developing into a nice type for the future.
We are delighted to have all three at Potwell.
