Travelling Head Lad - Joss Parker
Joss joined us in the Spring, and has been a brilliant addition to the team. He has worked with horses all his life, and came to us from the world of dressage - he is very used to travelling with multi-million pound horses round the globe. So he takes everything in his stride - dealing calmly and efficiently with his responsibilites on racedays.
Joss's job starts in the preparation for raceday. He makes sure the colours are ready, packs the kit bag - boots, tack, grooming kits, clothes and anything else that may be required for raceday.
Then driving the horses to the races and once at the racecourse unloading and settling horses into the racecourse stables. Generally he will arrive about 3 hours before a horse is due to run. Joss declares the horses and hands in the colours bag to the valets in the weighing room. He then makes sure that everything is organised, double checking all the kit. This will involve washing the horses down and hand walking them if they have arrived sweaty, then grooming, and tacking up.
After racing Joss washes down runners, hand walks them to cool them down, checking for any injuries and treating them if needed, whilst monitoring how quickly they recover from their race.
Once home and unloaded Joss makes sure that all the kit is cleaned and packed away, ready for the next trip.
When not at work his hobby is tennis and walking the dog with Aimee, his partner.
